Point and Eat

Sorry about the serious lag in my posts. My computer at work wouldn't let me log in to the blogger website. You probably didn't miss me that much anyway. Also, I can't upload pictures right now, so you'll just have to imagine how cool this city is. So time for more cultural education, everyone get some coffee!

Hand signals won't always get you what you want. Czech people generally use small amounts of gesticulation (thats using your hands to speak), this occasionally leads to confusion. A few weeks ago I walked over to the bar at the restaurant we were at intending to pay for the two gin and tonics I had ordered earlier. I accidently ordered two more. Thankfully friends were there to help me drink.

Prosim (pronounce Pro - seem) is the all purpose word for please, what was that?, what do you want?, I'll have that one, You have beautiful eyes, etc. It works well in restaurants; Just point to whatever you want and say "prosim." I rarely know what I'll be eating unless there's a picture or buffet, but the good thing about Czech food is it may be fattening, but it's almost always tasty. Sooner or later, I'll remember the words for what I've eaten. Until then, it's mystery lunch every day.

The great thing about dinner is most of my flatmates are enthusiastic cooks. Almost every night, "Jeremy are you hungry?" Is seems they intentionally make too much food. I figure it would be rude not to eat it because our refrigerators are too small to store any leftovers. Anything not eaten gets thrown away. I keep my breakfasts pretty continental just like back home: cold cereal w/milk (mléko in Czech), yogurt (they love their yogurt here, and there's 2 entire aisles for it at the market), and fruit. Coffee or tea if I'm thinking far enough ahead.

In case you're wondering, McDonald's and KFC are all over the place around here. I've had the McDonalds a couple times just because I wanted to be sure what I was ordering. My apologies to Morgan Spurlock.

I've had some Mexican food that wasn't that bad, but of course nothing compares to a tiny hole-in-the wall Mexican joint serving up big, sloppy gut-bomb burritos. If anyone back home is reading this, FedEx me some LosPanchos quick.

Until next time,

Jeremy

Oh yeah, happy birthday to my brother Jesse in Iraq! Happy 24th, and try not to have too much fun!

Hey y'all here's some fancy pictures

Hey, so I finally got the pictures to upload. I hope all of you are really happy, I had to stay at the office an extra 10 minutes to do this. I'll never have those 10 minutes back, or the 30 seconds I wasted writing this message. I always love wasting time reading your comments and emails, so keep them coming.

Later
